Exciting Changes to our Newsletters!

Unlocking Business Knowledge for English Learners

Welcome to Finance Friday.

In this week’s newsletter, we have some exciting updates regarding our newsletter schedule and content. Starting next week, we are making changes to better cater to your interests and needs.

Current Schedule

  • Motivational Monday

  • Wisdom Wednesday

  • Finance Friday

New Schedule

To provide more focused, detailed and valuable content, we will develop the Wednesday Business English newsletters and the Friday Financial newsletters. While the Monday newsletter will be discontinued, the content will appear in one of the other two newsletters, as appropriate. The two remaining newsletters will be rebranded, as follows:

  • Business Fluency: Unlocking Business Knowledge for English Learners

  • Financial Fluency: Unlocking Financial Knowledge for English Learners

Business Fluency (Wednesdays) will focus on Business English, relevant business news and motivational content previously covered on Mondays. We will also include some Cambridge Exam techniques which will be useful for all English learners.

Financial Fluency (Fridays) will continue to focus on financial terminology, investing ideas, financial news, overviews of market conditions and motivational insights from the Motivational Monday newsletters.

Subscriber Information

From next week, there will be two separate newsletter mailing lists - one for each of the newsletters. All current subscribers will be added to both lists. While we hope that you will continue to read both newsletters, you now have the option to unsubscribe from one list should you prefer. This also allows readers to recommend each newsletter individually if they wish.

We are excited about these changes and believe they will bring more valuable Business English and financial content to your inbox.

Readers Question - Cabinet Members

Following last week’s newsletter about the UK General election and the new UK government, I received the following question:

You wrote ‘Home Secretary’ and ‘Foreign Secretary’. Please explain more about these jobs and their departments.

The UK government is organised into various departments. Each department is led by a Secretary of State who is appointed by the Prime Minister (currently Keir Starmer). These ministers form the Cabinet. Key positions include the Home Secretary (responsible for immigration and security), Foreign Secretary (responsible for international relations), and Chancellor of the Exchequer (responsible for economic and financial matters). Other important roles are the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care and the Secretary of State for Education. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, these officials play crucial roles in shaping UK policies.
